I was visiting Northern Virginia this past week and stopped by a few of the bigger thrift stores in the area. I think I found the shell Ralph Lauren at one called Unique. The larger thrift stores (2A thrift, B-thrifty, Unique, etc) had multiple racks of men's shoes and there were a few nice finds (Rancourt, Alden, etc.). I was actually a bit surprised since I expected the locals to pick them clean. There probably is a lot of rotation.
Not surprised. Northern Virginia is rich area.

I love watering my garden in the rain. Love a self driving Ferrari. Love my online Karate classes. Most of all, I love rooting for hockey from a sandy sunny beach. Lightnings are down but not out. Go Bolts!!!

Presenting 50s Nettleton boots. Vintage color restoration always need more finesse which is why I rely on Alberto Suastez all the time. I’m now ready to walk on even Avalanches 🍻 View attachment 1806267 View attachment 1806268 View attachment 1806269 View attachment 1806270
Amazing. Love those. The straps weren’t overly dry?

Happy Saturday forum pals. Just another pair of Florsheims, but dang if they don't fit and look nice.

Sadly, the shell pair has cracks in the heel area. I will honour its journey by moving them on to the next phase. Watch straps a la @smfdoc.

However, if someone really wants them for a project, they're yours if you pay shipping. Let me know if anyone wants more pics.
Show us those cracks. Maybe all is not that bad and it could be repaired.

To celebrate the 3000th page of the greatest Internet thread, I took the day off from work. Lunch alone. And then some thrifting! I hit 4 thrift stores and found 3 pairs. Even a pair that fit me amazingly well.

1 = Dacks that fit me. These will get rebuilt and are perfect for work. Maybe fully rebuild with GYW, JR soles, etc;

2 = Johnston Murphy Optima;

3 = unknown maker. Possibly John McHale.

That last pair is probably not John McHale.

1950's Jarman U-Tip Oxford. More rare as an oxford + it fits better into my collection and wardrobe. Who else has a specific "Rain Shoe" collection? It's been raining almost every day for months, so who is LOOKING GOOD on those days?? And, YES, THIS is where I think the Florsheim LWB is a GREAT shoe! Except for the earlier Full Grain leather models, that CG leather is AWESOME in bad weather. Really wonderful stuff.

Golden Harvest Florsheim? Honestly, years ago people HATED the vintage Golden Harvest shoes. They were always rare, but not many people liked that "Band-Aid color". I always enjoyed it, though. I can't say it's a "pretty" color, but, DAMN, people see them and you WILL get comments and compliments. All 3 pairs from my collection are in my "Rain Shoe" collection. As I've said, that CG leather is AWESOME in the rain + the other Bison pair are pretty indestructible unless I submerge them.

BUT, let me start with the pair that did NOT FIT ME! A 10.5 D. Long ago sold to some Happy Bastard! LOL. Early 1950's GUNBOAT if you ever saw one! See that stormwelt? It's trimmed, like you see in the later models. They were transitioning from the more "Veldtschoen" style of stormwelting (stitched into the side). They are AMAZING!
