On a rainy day, the veldtschoen come out to play. These vintage English made rain shoes were reinforced with toe taps, rubber heels, and sole protectors.

Black shell AE Dundee. I sun faded and micro sanded these. I love the resulting patina.

Wore Allen-Edminds Oakmont (made in 1984) saddle shoes today.

Sat on my favorite tuffet, by the UCLA Medical Center parking structure, on the way to Haines Hall to participate in a reserach project.

The researchers are trying to figure out if there is a Los Angeles accent. Since my Great Grandfather came to Los Angeles from Elmira NY in 1855 (shortly after the Panama Railroad opened) I seemed like a likely subject for the research.

Wore a pair of vintage (?) Bates shoes to attend my school's graduation ceremony today. I am not sure what year these are from, but I assume they are fairly old given they were made in the USA. At the least, they are probably older than the students who graduated today!

I found them new-in-box last year for $10, but the box was faded and appeared to be quite old. They also have the same type of "comfort arch" piece that I have seen on vintage Bostonians & Hanovers.

I have only worn them once or twice before today (mostly because I don't like the very shiny finish that much), but they are really comfortable. The footbed has some sort of a crepe material on top that feels very springy when walking.

That is honestly fascinating about the research on LA accents. Are you going to really participate?

Yes, I participated on Friday at 11:00am. Answered many questions and read a list of words while being filmed, and marked on a map places I have lived.

Here's a link to the project:

Here I am on Level A of Haines Hall waiting to begin.

For those who have never been to UCLA, here's a picture of Haines Hall.

Once again realized I am now old and walked up and down the steps by Royce Hall (with railings) rather than take a chance walking up and down Janss Steps (with no railings)

After about two weeks of incremental stretching, I got one of the J&M Aristocraft saddles stretched to a wearable width (I have only one shoe stretcher). Still have some touching up to do on the upper, but I'll do that once both shoes are stretched. So far, I'm happy with how they are turning out. The stretching of the left shoe begins today!
