Just got my 22 year old some black cap toes because he'll need them, eventually. He already has one of the best closets in town. Wish I had an 'assistant' sending me shoes and clothes out of the blue. 9eee Fottjoy Classic.

what would be the differences between florsheim longwing 75675 from the early 90s and an older model of similar pebbled black leather... besides the rubber vs leather heel?
are the older shoes much better? and if so, why?

As a general answer, the quality tended to go down as each decade passed. The 60s are better than the 70s, which were better than the 80s, which were better than the 90s. The shoes you referenced were a Stratford model. As time passed the company may have started cutting corners in leather quality, decreased the stitches per inch, etc. But even so, a made in USA Florsheim from the 90s is usually far better than what is available today.
