That can be sorta fixed with a heavy stitch - black shoe, low on the upper, could probably made fairly unobvious. But yeah, that looks like some kind of box-cutter accident.

Just as a followup, this is the kind of fix that can be done.

Not pretty, be would be less noticeable on those Shreveport’s.

Mid 60’s -ish. Still appears to be full leather construction (e.g. no fiberboard insole), before they were run into the ground by US Shoe Corp, in the late 60’s.
