I've sometimes wondered if you could get that look with almost any pair of shark shoes by just going over them with acetone to remove the dye from the raised parts.

Maybe a rainy day project if I get a pair of sharks that I wouldn't mind experimenting on.

Love the stitching on that pair. Too bad they are so narrow they would crush my feet after just a few steps.

Rare pair of Tomasian shoes in Horween Shell Cordovan. The upper Shell Cordovan is in very good condition. I believe it is Color #4. The Shell Cordovan has faded in a number of areas so the color is not consistent.

The mystery AE Saratoga loafers that were the subject of discussion over the weekend have landed. A thanks to @vestbash for reaching out to chat about this pair of shoes. It's fair to say that we each concluded that they were probably not shell but that there were enough oddities about this pair that it was difficult to be certain one way or the other.

I am happy to report....

I actually don't think they are butt ugly. But I do think there is no chance I would wear them. That said, even black shark seemed to be too much for my personal taste. It's a unique look for shark. I've never seen another pair quite like 'em.

So these were therefore an MTO, or something, where they just reused the style number. I think @smfdoc has a pair of MTO shark Chester’s where they did the same thing.

That’s pretty awesome that they were shell!

Weird that they don’t have the combo heel [EDIT: dovetail herl] that AE shell usually has, even back then. I have an oddly large sense of pride that I called it right. You guys get it though. Wear those in good health!
