Those really came out looking terrific. It looks like they were re-welted. I think I am going to send a pair of my shoes to those guys. They're doing some top notch work, that's for sure.

They were re-welted, with a new leather mid sole, JR soles and heels. My choice of stitch, welt and edge colors.

Calling @Oshare....

Thanks for the ping.

Those really just look like a pair of 93602s but made by someone else.
A bit dirty, but a fair price I guess. I put them in my watchlist for now. ;)

Similar. The brogue pattern and stitching is a little different. I prefer 93602s but highlighted them since I remember you were considering a pair of Wrights recently. Perhaps it was a different model, can't recall.

I was indeed looking at a pair of ET Wrights recently.

But rather than focused on the brand, the pair I had my eyes on were had a really nice patina and vintage look to them. Instant gratification rather than putting in the elbow grease myself :p

Speaking of ET Wright, brick red shell shortwings that I think were made by Hanover, based on the sole stamps. These have been spotted in Tokyo at times too.

JM had many lines. As a general rule I judge the quality of each line by their position in the catalog. There is an older catalog on vcleat.com.

Here you go.

This is listed as "handmade optima", yet optima is usually listed as one of the lowest of J&M quality shoes, whereas I understood the handmade line to be the best from Vcleat.

Or is this just some foreign made garbage shoe?

Enjoying "Golden Week" holidays while still under lockdown in Japan so no going to the office or wearing dress shoes.
But I took my recently acquired pair of Florsheim Yumas for their second outing.

Those are not from the handmade line, the seller has mislabeled them. They’re fine construction wise, but the materials aren’t great.

In the 1991 catalog they were priced at $140. The true handmade shoes in the same catalog were $1000. I would not call them garbage shoes, but they were routine Optima shoes of the day.

All right, gather round for some massive beasts: American Gentleman from Craddock-Terry, Lynchburg, Virginia. These are heavy and solid. Look at that welt. There must be some serious shanks inside for what they weigh. Comfy. Size: 13C.
