Vintage Dress shoe appreciation, tips, maintenance and advice

OK, here's my entry:
I like longwings. Yes, I really like longwings. If they are special enough, I even buy vintage pairs that are not my size, in the belief that I can resell them at a profit. This sometimes succeeds. But lately, the weather gods interfered in this harmless pursuit by marooning a pair of vintage Florsheim Golden Harvest shoes in Bakersfield, California. A city made famous by the Rolling Stones, in the song Far Away Eyes. Perhaps you've heard the song. Possibly not. But the longwings endure. No, they abide.

Anyway, that's all I got. Hats off and vcleats down, props to @davidVC. Golden Harvest anecdote is real, receipts attached.

The Duckie Brown wholecut "Party Florsheims" have landed. Of course they can't hold a stick to their vintage brethren in terms of build quality, but I doubt they will become a part of my regular rotation. That said, I don't hate them as much as I thought I might. And surprisingly my wife said they are eye candy, but could see them being worn more than once every few years ?

I might pair them with this suit I had made-to-measure in Singapore with a blue paisley lining.

Those would honestly be amazing for a vampire party or something. There's a place I used to go to pre-corona that did a Goth/Vampire party monthly and I would totally rock those shoes then.

I bought this pair recently. A women in Saskatchewan contacted me about them. They were owned by her uncle. My guess is that they were made in the 1940s. Pretty amazing. Museum quality. They are small though. Size 8B.

Here’s a real mystery. Either this is a mistake on style number in the shoe or a mistake in the catalog, OR a special order mystery.

I found a pair of Florsheim 31824. It is not a style I was familiar with. The 1969 Catalog lists a 31824. It is pictured here (in black and indicating 21763) with the 31824 identified as “Weathered Moss”

Yet, these shoes below are the same style and are marked as 31824 and are certainly not weathered Moss.

Incoming... Florsheim guardsman boots. I’ve been looking for a non-square-toe pair of these for awhile. These are 9E. I usually wear 9D. So it’s a bit of a gamble. They look to be in great shape. I’ll post pics when I get them cleaned up.

dyed from green to red? It’s possible. It looks too consistent to be a dye. If they were dyed, I will definitely trying to return them to weathered Moss!
