@davidVC had a post here — and I think an article on his site — maybe five months ago. It was about golf shoes, but a lot of the info is still relevant. The key in dating Foot-Joy usually lies in the inside. Is FootJoy hyphenated or not? Does it include the word “Classics” or not? Etc., etc.

Thanks for the reply Nick,

I'm probably going to leave this be and chalk it up to lessons learned, but would it be possible to salvage the soles and simply re-stitch?

Nah...if the foundation is bad don't try and rebuild on top of it. For what you are trying to salvage is not worth the time for a credible repairman to re-use that sole. Who knows how that repairman sanded the underbelly of the sole, if he/she did at all. Could be wavy. Then, the new repair shop has to fit that sole exactly on your next repair. After that the rough sole has to be trimmed, sanded, stitched and, fine trimmed before being finished. Also, keep in mind, it's not possible (unlikely) to line up the holes in the JR sole to those on the top of the welt.
Stay away...

Shell is in the air...in 11C not 13D as I would prefer them to be. But it’s OK. View attachment 1423562
Don't tell me you got that at the one in Menlo Park on Santa Cruz Ave. I was just there a week ago. Nothing but square toes and cheap leather.

Nope! These came from a store up in the north of San Mateo County, in a blue collar town.

Here's one of my oldest pairs. They were made by Crawford Shoes. There were shoe firms with this name in Brockton, Chicago, and someplace in Michigan. I'm not sure which made this pair. Many ads can be found for the brand between 1900 and 1910. Unfortunately, the size is 7b. Crawford also made women's shoes, but the charecture on the sole and interior label is a dapper gentleman, making me thing they are for men, as does the style, which (to me) is not at all feminine.

More unfortunately, years ago when they arrived I showed them to a former girlfriend, who overzealously tried to cram her foot into them. Before I got a word of caution out of my mouth, the collar tore all the way through ?. Distraught, I thew the in the basement.

This past week I carefully cleaned and then conditoned them. Leather 'n' Rich seemed to be the best product for the job among those that I tested.

Now I don't know what to do with them. They are certainly interesting. Are they museum worthy? If they were worn, I don't think they would last long. The leather is supple now, but being dry for nearly 100 years has to take its toll.
