Well, he IS from Minnesota. Bending an ear is second nature there.

I mean, I love the sound of my own voice. And my family and colleagues will tell you I talk even when it's not necessary. So I shouldn't be criticizing. But he out talks me.

Went out into the world and braved the virus to pick up a new phone and pick up a few pairs from the cobbler, including my beloved Florsheim shell PTB with my first JR some conversion.

My excitement faded when I got the shoes home and checked them out closely.

My disappointment knows no bounds. :(
First world probalems for sure, but one cobbler to strike from the books.

At least the phone is nice.

Doesn't look like the stitches were pulled to me.
Aside from the other shoddy work:

Unlikely those are JR heels + likely you were charged for them= Guys like that are bad for the shoe repair industry.

If you ever use him, let him know it's a recommendation from this website. He is not tech savvy.

A few months ago, he asked me to proxy a pair of shoes on eBay because he doesn't know how to set up en eBay account.

He also doesn't know how to send e-transfer, and doesn't have PayPal account.

I decided to gift him the shoes in lieu of trying to figure out payment.

Great guy but talkative.
Will do, thanks!

I finally cleaned up these W. Gibbs 7-eylet Oxfords. They turned out decently, though they might be just a tiny bit too big. I added some cut insoles to make up the difference.

I struggled to figure out what these are. Googling the retailer on the heel pad was futile at first. Eventually the AI at Google caught on and led me to a shoe store in Athens, Greece called καλογηρου. I wasn't able to learn much about them.

Construction is also confusing. By all appearances, they are Goodyear welted. Clearly there's been a half-sole veneer applied.

Now, the interior stitching is confusing. It looks like a Blake welt.

Is it possible that the welt is sewn directly through the insole (rather than sewn to the cemented rib), and then the outsole sewn to the welt?

Blake rapid. It's similar to GYW in appearance and ease of sole replacing. Rancourt uses this today.

Pulled out my second pair of 93602s that were recently rebuilt.

New Vibram 430 soles and Alpes heels. Honestly, I like these better than the Eton or Dainite soles. They feel lighter.

Thanks for the reply Nick,

I'm probably going to leave this be and chalk it up to lessons learned, but would it be possible to salvage the soles and simply re-stitch?
