These might be a little fancy or a little dressy for working from home. I found two pair of Zelli Crocodile loafers at an estate sale. This pair actually fits so I am fighting the urge to keep.

Keep the beauties that fit or you will regret it. IMHO

That is my usual practice. Of course, that’s why I have 100 pairs and have to spread them out into three closets.

Like you really don't have a 4th closet? We all know you do. Keep that pair and look through the others. Maybe you can find something else to move. Those loafers are very nice.

We need to start renting group storage spaces.

Any fellow members within a radius should get together to do this. And have shoes mailed directly to the facility.

Which manufacturer have you seen make the heel wider than the rest of the shoe? I’ve never seen a combo last that had a wider heel.

I think the confusion usually lies in the notation. Some designate it heel/ball (A/C) and others do it ball/heel (C/A).

Alden does heel/ball, so I have a search for "Alden 13AAA" because it gets erroneously listed that way very frequently.

If you’re an A width, eBay must feel like a candy shop overflowing with great deals. I’d never shop for new shoes... ever. Vintage exotics, Edwinn Clapps, McHales, Florsheims, Aldens... whatever. World’s your oyster. (If you can’t tell I’m a bit jealous).

I think there are fewer shoes overall that appear in a 13 A, but there are some occasionally spectacular ones. Nettleton alligator, Footjoy alligator, Edwin Clapp alligator, Allen Edmonds spectators from the 1950s, etc. Moving to shell, I can often work with a 13 AA, since shell can't be lasted as tightly as calfskin. There has been a pair of 93605s in 13 A for months. I'd love to buy them, but know that in that last I would really need a 13 AA because of the extra room in shell.

The best part of it is the general lack of competition. I can usually let a shoe sit through 2 or 3 cycles of relisting and then go in with a more reasonable offer than the seller's "market value" appraisal. It's only worth what someone will pay, and if you're selling to a market of one, then it's a pretty short discussion.

The list in my signature below is only the starting point. Styleforum changed their footer rules more than a year ago and severely truncated the number of allowed characters. So if I change the signature, the char count drops by 80%. So I haven't been able to update the list in over a year.

Today I am wearing late 60's or early 70's John McHale Custom bluchers. I am going to need new flooring soon, but wearing decent shoes cheers me up. One thing I have noticed lately is that all of the 1950's John McHale Custom shoes I have seen have had a clear stained finish on the sides of the soles and heels, while all of the post 1959 shoes have the sides stained an opaque dark brown. I have attached photos below of the heels on a NOS pair from the very early 50's and a pair of NOS John McHales from the 70's as a comparison. I have found no exceptions to this pattern so far.

Top five things to do while under shelter in place restrictions:
1. Organize accumulated treasures a la Marie Kondo
2. While breaking in a pair of 23 oz. selvedge jeans that started out stiff as a board
3. Shop for vintage shoes on Ebay
4. Identify, photograph and list backlog for Ebay (see #1 above)
5. Shop for audiophile iPods on Ebay

Those are mine, anybody else?

Yeah. I washed the car this morning. Full detail in and out. As soon as I had done the final wipe it began to rain☹️. Knowing Vancouver it won’t stop for a couple of weeks!

Hanover LB Sheppards today. These got a full rebuild - welts, soles, cat paw heels, sole protectors, and spenco foam filler (instead of cork). Quite comfortable and no major difference from cork filler.

I’ve been sitting on these 1950’s Nunn Bush Shell brogue derbies until I had to chance to properly condition them with Neatsfoot overnight etc—they are now ready for action

And finally to go drive past where the shoes were born-the old former Nunn Bush factory from 1915 at 5th and Hadley in Milwaukee, eight blocks due west of my house!
