Thanks to everyone who offered advice and insight on the Nunn Bushes. I wasn't sure how to care for them exactly, so you guys were super helpful. I put shoe trees in them already, and I'll definitely be doing a lot of conditioning and brushing. If all goes well, I'll post some pictures when they're spiffed up.

There is a small tear in the leather at the left heel that has me a bit worried. I might take it to a cobbler and see if he can put a stitch or two in it to avoid further damage.

In case anyone is interested, while researching my find, I came across this ad from 1957, which appears to be the first appearance of the Nunn Bush shell longwing.

The estimate of early-60s from @davidVC seems pretty likely to me.

On a different note, here is a different sort of (NSFW!) ad from 1972, by which time they seem to have gone off the rails.

Wasn't a huge fan before. But now I'm digging the short wing. I only have 2 pairs: Bally in black calf, and Royal Tweed by Cheaney in oxblood calf. I might have to expand to a walnut or brown.

I grabbed these last night off the bay just out of curiosity. The listing was wrong and the date code is not included in the picture. The leather may be some CG gone terribly wrong or some wierd skin...no idea. I have not seen the channeled sole stitching on their garbage shoes before. So did I waste 30 bucks?

I like wingtips, so Florsheim SWO today.

Back at corporate in our war room. Might be pulling a double.

    Is Thursday "short wing" day?

We should make up a schedule and then post the shoe porn up.

If anyone else is interested, I can get one started for next week. I just don't want to look like the fool who makes schedules and events, and then no one participates/attends. Too much of that in my childhood.

Do you have some other pics of these you could post from various angles and/or lighting? I'm thinking of getting a pair and doing a similar mod to the sole edge. Thanks.
