Mason Velvet-eez. Extra padding in the insole for superior comfort. I forgot how comfortable these are.

It's been awhile since I've posted here, but not for a lack of interesting finds!

Attempting to figure out a new camera I took pictures of these late 1950s Nunn Bush Fetherwate blucher shoes I found a few months ago.
I found ads for this specific pair in 1958 Apparel Arts and Esquire magazines that name them "Roma Last Style 2303 Brown Boarded Calf & Brown Alligator Calf".
These seem to be an early example of the Fetherwate line since most of the ones I've seen look newer than this, and references in magazines that I've come across only go back another year.
I like the subtle spectator style of these with the contrast between the faux alligator apron and calf body.

Faint remains of "Flexible Fetherwate" remain on the sole and insole.

Here's the 2303 style code inside, which I used to find the ad below.

Unfortunately I could only see previews of the ads rather than the full ones.

On a different note, this is my first pair of split toe shoes. When I joined this group I saw split toe shoes being discussed and I didn't know what they were, and these are what I initially thought everyone was talking about...

That’s a great look. The red socks work. I’m really diggin’ the trousers, though. Can you tell us about the trousers?
Thank you. The trousers are lightweight flannel from Epaulet.

From the archives, for Wingtip Wednesday here is a pair of 1992 production Florsheim 97626 I thrifted back when I was just getting started in 2017. They were B width (I wear a D) and rumpled with a hole in one sole, but after reshaping them I decided to splurge and have them resoled.

Stretching shell was a bit of a roll of the dice because they could have cracked, but since they were my size (13) and the cost from the Salvation Army was only $6.99, it was worth taking the chance.

AE shell MacNeil from 1988 for wingtips Wednesday. The color and natural shine on this shell is amazing.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
