In the late 80s-early 90s LA and San Diego were my second home, with practically every other week on the left coast.
I will never forget when my west coast cousins came to NJ for a visit and went through their first thunder storm. They looked like I did when I went through my first earthquake.
It has been some time since I have been to LA. I have met everyone from movie stars to astronauts in that city. Now I'm going to have to find @Roycru "in the wild"!

Yes, at various stages. Many pages back. I will do a single post on it tomorrow.

I will look forward to seeing them. I did see some of the pictures of the work in progress but must have missed the first ones.

Here is the before photos of the shoe from the Ebay ad before the rehab. A series of "during" photos are also added and spoliered as I have posted them before.

The first thing I wanted to do was to smooth out the toe bend and the vamp folds under the theory that I wanted to give the cobbler the best shoe with which to work. I used the water reshaping method described at the vcleat.com blog.

    Screen Shot 2018-01-10 at 4.06.16 PM.png

I soaked them for an hour completely submerged underwater and then dried them with a hand towel after pouring out all the water. The shoe trees are the adjustable sort. They need to be as tight as possible and I added some handkerchiefs to the back as padding to make them a bit longer and tighter. It took 3 days to really dry out.

After drying out I cleaned and polished them. The vamps now look great and this is without shoe trees.

The shoes arrived and were taken apart. You see the cork in the shoe on the left, the mid sole and the outer sole on the right. The black welt stitching was removed.

The outsole was created, dyed and striped to give the wood-like appearance of the original Florshiem soles. I don't know how the brand name or the logo were created and added, but it is a super esthetic touch.

The soles are added back to the shoe. The channel for the stitching is added and then the off-white welt stitch was sewed in.

The end result. The heel is the standard heel they use in a resole job. The dovetail can be used, but would cost extra. I saw no purpose in spending the additional money.

The final look after adding AE alabaster laces.

Now, if I can just bring myself to wear them. PM me with any additional questions to avoid thread clutter.
