My buddy inherited a house. When he was cleaning it out, he found this old shoeshine box and give it to me. It was mostly full of old rags.

It also contained some interesting shoe products, including this leather moisturizer with a curious name…

Opted for some plain toes for church this morning. Oddly, there is no name inside to suggest a brand. Anyone want to wager a guess? I like them a lot, but wish they were slightly larger. At 10.5E, they are on the short list for making room in my closet.

Definitely BA Masons, based on the sole/heel and interior markings.

The heel pad inside suggests Alden but the O'Sullivan heels often are on Mason, so I can't tell. Are there size markings inside?

Walk Over dress shoe, 8.5E, pebbled brown, derby, leather, arch support USA | eBay

Leather upper and insole. Rubber heel. Little to no heel wear. Trees not included.

Anybody know what the quality might be on these? Nice casual style and certainly tempting for $15 since they're exactly my size and lightly worn.

I use Angelus Red for the McHale shade.

Blue for my blue. Green for my green.

I pick the brighest color shade possible to overcome the lite natural tan base.

That is why I think vibrant yellow would be a better choice for Golden Harvest.

I was just hunting for some of @Jiqea red mchale bomber photos since I decided on that color for the base dye of the PTBs that I posted about recently. Little did I expect that someone else had the same thought. I happen to have Angelus Red dye on hand, which is what @Hotel Cali ended up using.

Do you guys feel this is a reasonably color accurate version of McHale's red? I feel like in some of @Jiqea posts the color, while very red, is slightly deeper. Almost like a blood cherry (?) red in tone (but not that dark) with some mahogany or brown undertones. I've never owned a pair in that color though so it's hard to know. Or is it more like vintage color 4 shell (like the some of the lighter 93605s?)?

I'm also curious if you guys have thoughts about coordinating colors for burnishing. Would a fade into a something like a very dark, purpley brown black work? Or just do the fade to brown/black (apologies to metallica) with the same red base tone but darker.

I agree with HotelCali's (cool wind in his hair) comment regarding lightning the red a tad. However over the years there was quite a bit of variation in the colour of the McHale Brogue and Viking (cap-toe) Bombers. I am buzzing around like a blue arsed fly this morning, but I will try to pull a few and lay them out side by side and post an image later.

Many thanks gentlemen! As luck would have it, I also have both orange and yellow angelus dye. So there are some orangey undertones, I guess? I wonder if I could get this effect by taking advantage of the base tan tone of the leather and just using very diluted red dye. Still working to strip the coating but will begin experimenting with some dye mixes this week. This pair of AEs seem to be a hair darker tan in terms of base leather color so I don't think they would be that well suited to a golden harvest conversion, which was another consideration initially. I think the red is going to work out well.
