Us shoe geeks use terms like "shoe Appreciation" and "family photo" which may baffle others.
I had Corey Hiltz do some work on footwear that needed some fixing.
All vintage, and all of their lives have been extended.
First up is a vintage pair of AE Cumberland boots. These needed a total overhaul. So new insoles, welts, thick midsoles added, and orange Vibram outsoles to give them total new look. The leather is thick like football leather. I wish AE would bring this pair back (AE Insider).
Next is a pair of vintage Canadian made Hartt toecap. Check out the stitching on the toecap itself. New heels and sole protectors.
Vintage US made Dexters with new heels and sole protectors.
Vintage ET Wright with new cat paw heels and sole protectors.
Vintage Canadian made Florsheim by John McHale. Cat paw heels and sole protectors.
Vintage US made Nettleton with new heels and sole protectors.
And the piece de resistance! Shell Florsheim that were custom made to size 8.5 5e. Another shoe geek bought the other pair from a lot of 5. Grommets, sole protectors, toe taps, and cat paw heels to give them more life.

I noticed this thread is coming up on its 5 year anniversary and now has 2.4 million views. Yes, interest in vintage shoes is a thing.

It's totally a thing, and thanks to your continued leadership, it's a growing and thriving interest. I'm sure that other guy who runs vcleat.com also slightly contributes. I don't want to give any representations or guarantees about that.

Bostonian shell LWBs for being back in the office today.

Nice Shell Hanover’s! Complete with Hanover 6 eyelet lacing on an LWB.

I always felt that Hanover, even though they were really the same company by the time those shoes were made, is the more amusing brand. Hanover’s 6 martini-lunch style marketing is just more “vintage”. “Hanover: A Man’s Shoe”, as if it was ever in question. But the genius of such marketing is the tagline implies that if you don’t buy their shoe, you might be wearing something a tad “insubstantial”, that’s a little less than “manly”. After all, you wouldn’t want your colleagues at the office thinking you’re not wearing manly shoes.

Just look at their welt treatment:

To quote the immortal Macho Man Randy Savage: Oooohhhhh yyyeeeeaaahhhhh

Edit: Had to fix some big-ass typos.

Decided to break out the NOS Nettletons that I just got. The fit on this pair is top notch for me. I also appreciate the fairly chunky looking welt and the shape of the last. When time permits, I plan to clean out the polish from the welts and expose (hopefully) some contrast welt stitching.

Great looking pair. Now I really regret not grabbing that NOS Nettleton PTB in my size a few months back. Another gent in the Facebook group bought them.

1988 AE shell MacNeils today. Grommets installed by yours truly. I put a tongue pad in these and it reduces some of the gap around the ankle I have slightly flat feet so all of my shoes have such a gap except Dack’s (@Jiqea : let me know if you have more of those beauties)

That vcleat guy is one serious enabler. Let’s go over a few things @davidVC has put me in the position of having to smuggle past Spousal Customs:

This pair:

And this pair:

And this pair:

Which I had to buy because, you know, they’re actually rolling on 50’s vcleat suicide heels… you can’t not buy a pair of French Shriner & Urner vcleat’s… on the vcleat watchlist:

And oddly enough, this pair that are a vintage violation that landed on the watchlist…so of course I bought them anyway because they are really nice…

@davidVC is single-handedly responsible for my addiction, and I'd assume that of many others. All ya'll are enablers who feed the addiction. Thank you for enabling me. Thank you.
