It’s surprising today, but it used to be legal to use sea turtle leather for shoes. The lines between the scales are generally cleaner and more defined than you see on alligator or croc, just the way your boots are. They’re rare to find, and quite cool (though I’m glad it’s no longer legal to make them). Be careful if you plan to sell them, as the strict regulations on sea turtles can make it a bit difficult.
I planned to clean and flip them.

Son of a bitch. I now have two pairs of boots that are illegal to sell. Where's Mr. Burns when you need him?

Nassau Sharkskin. Hadn’t worn these in a while. I usually wear them with one specific suit, and it was in the dry cleaning bag for several months. Finally got some errands done and the Nassau’s are back in rotation.

You can sell them, just not as sea turtle.

93605s today. These are the pair I just got and my first wear of them. They really are in exceptional shape. I took a gamble on a EEE width when really a D or E would have been ideal. Strangely enough... they are kinda high volume. I wore them today with my thickest socks and they were still a bit too loose. I'm going to try some inserts. It'll suck if I have to resell these since they are by far the best condition pair that I've handled to date.

Try these 2 tricks:

1. Wear no show socks, and then your regular socks over them; or

2. Take a pair of insoles, cut them in half, and use top half.

Could you fit into a 13 B?
Ummmm...maybe. 13C, definitely yes. My 13C Hanovers are comfortable. I have one pair of 13Bs that I thought were a little snug across the ball of the foot but seemed OK otherwise.

Dang! Where did you get those! I love them!
$25 on eBay. They looked almost new. Not MIUSA but solid quality, good looking, and very comfortable. They do run a little big.

According to their videos online, they strip the finish, spray new dye, and polish them. You might call or email them about the CG leather, though. I doubt they strip that.
I have some strands from 1988 that have a discoloration on the toe. It looks like someone dropped acetone on them ( it wasn’t me. They came that way). It’s always bugged me. I’ve thought about stripping and dying the entire shoe but I’m too chicken. May move the AE refinishing is the answer.

What year are those from? The toes seem a lot less square than mine. Those are great.

How do you feel about spending money on non-essential goods during the Covid-19 crisis?

  • I don't want to spend money at a time of economic uncertainty, even if I could afford it.

  • I feel compelled to spend to help small businesses that are struggling.

  • I reduced my budget for non-essential goods and I'm not spending at the moment.

  • Not much has changed for me and I'm still buying stuff I can't afford.
