They walked the same path as Florsheim, but at slower pace. I have handled some of the later US made JM shoes, and they are pretty high quality, and worth 100-300 if you can find them NOS.

AE is also on the same path. I guess all we can do is keep looking for gems.
I don’t think AE is on the same path. It’s too valuable a brand at this point. Not saying Caleres won’t screw them up, but if they do it’ll be more along the lines of Prada and Church’s (e.g. weird over-priced stuff). That said, Caleres has actually done some very positive things (bringing bench-welt uppers production back to the US, investing in plant upgrades, etc.).

Banister is the same as Stetson. Hence a fab score. Banister was absorbed by Stetson and maintained as an alternative brand. Banister originally was top of the tree hence why Stetson prolly did that. Stretching from C to D with the proper device is a mere bagatelle.

I got this as a project shoe for some (distant) day.

It seems lower quality but with interesting features of being hand-boarded and an oval plastic cleat.

What is hand-boarded? Does it mean hand lasted? And is the oval cleat from Melville?

boarded leather – leather that has been softened and the surface of which has been lightly creased by folding grain to grain and then working the fold across the leather to and fro by hand boarding or by means of a boarding machine.

I suspect it may be because they have used bison leather which was initially stiff to last.

It was recommended I cross post this here from the thrift shop thread. Found these in a (church) thrift shop, ha!.

I tried googling for information but I can't say for certain what the actual lineage of these shoes is, they are not marked Made in England. In any case, they are a very well made, obviously hand crafted pair of shoes that looks like they have never even been worn. There are some spots of what I assume is either water damage or even slight mold from improper storage, see pics. Any tips you have either for care, or for info on them is highly appreciated!

Also, sorry, my cat would not let me take pics without her in it.

Your cat guards that pair
locked in an I dare you stare
so I won't touch it
