I'm thinking of dyeing my Crown Windsors as I would lose money if I sold them and I never reach for them over my same color McAllisters.

I was thinking of using Fiebing's Deglazer and then Fiebing dye after that do I just start adding polish to protect it?

@Shoonoob What is your process? Have you written a guide for shoe dyeing?

Wingtip Wednesday: Sears EasyFlex

View attachment 1165752

Not my best or favorite pair, but they're comfy and U.S. made.

These are definitely NOT Hanover shoes. I have no idea who the actual maker is, but the workmanship is poorer than my Hanover Sears LWBs. And I suspect they are CG, based on how they're aging. And, oh, they're welted, but a past owner had replacement soles glued on, instead of stitched. With a plastic heel riser.

But, you know? I like them. These were the dying breath of some quality U.S. shoe manufacturer, and they tried. They really did.

I'm tempted to strip the finish and dye them blue or green.

I love the mid-tier shoes like this pair, and B Mason, Stuart McGuire, Dexter etc.

As you've noted, they were dying, and tried.

Great shoes!

Today’s entry in my week of shell: Maiden voyage of the Florsheim 92612.

What an amazing tank of a shoe! So impressive.
Also, the bloom on the vamp popped up on my 8 minute walk from house to train.

That's a nice brick of tea!

I put them in old socks, and tie off the end. And then stuff them into the shoe. So lots of tea leaves are used.

Please use at your own caution. I don't want someone using this method and then complaining their feet and shoes smell like tea!

Do you think using tea bags would have a similar effect? Could just buy the cheapest tea bags available assuming there is no intention of drinking it!

I have been recommended neatsfoot oil for effective conditioning of the lining which I already have along with some other options.

In honor of today’s announcement of the new James Bond movie #Bond25 with Daniel Craig, Rami Malek and Léa Seydoux set to play the 007, villain and female lead roles, here are my Church’s Chetwynds, as worn by Pierce Brosnan in the opening scene of Goldeneye, way back in 1995. The six eyelets were still standard at that time.

These are the original soles with markings for US sizes and the original combination heel. I’ve also seen these marked English style like “130 F” on some pairs I’ve sold.

Interior markings. Some of them say “Chetwynd”, written in celtic/hieroglyphic style calligraphy, but these don’t. They are on Church’s 73 last.

Recently had B. Nelson recraft my Florsheim Royal Imperial Kenmoors (96624). JR soles and heels. New mid-sole. New cork. New Cordovan-Hyde laces. Mirror shined toes.

Stitching is clean. Nice channel. I probably wouldn’t spend this much on most of my other Florsheim; these fit better and are more comfortable than the rest. They had a nickel-sized hole in the sole, but were becoming the favorite among black LWB. I decided that his was the pair I wanted in my closet for another decade or two.

JR soles and heels: $150
New midsole: $40
Shipping: $10 (one-way).

Overall, great job and worth the spend. For shoes I don’t wear as often, they will probably be resoled with standard leather.

Not sure if tea bags would be same. Try it!
