Just found these at my girlfriends parent's house, and was wondering what your opinions on them are. I have identified the maker as Crockett & Jones by the nail pattern, and inside writing, and believe they are on the 337 last. They were made for McAfee of Bond Street, London, who specialised in Polo wear, and on the inside the style is the Brighton (Which i cannot find an archive of) in a 7 1/2 E. On the sole, it reads Custom Grade, I don't know whether this means they are better than Benchmade...Apparantly they are about 15-20 years old. Anyway, he wants to sell them so I was wondering what your opinions are on how much I should charge on them &c. Any other comments welcome. Cheers lads!

No way in hell those are 337. I don't think the 337 even existed 15 years ago.
Also, I'm not convinced yet that they are Crocketts.

They would go for about $80-120 on ebay. Maybe less in this current holiday season.

The writing does look classic C&J, but the design and last said Church's to me.

Difficult to judge sale price as whilst the demand for spectators is relatively low, they don't crop up that often. I'd guess at £50 - £80 given the decent but worn condition.

if it is c&j, i am sure it is the 236 last (connaught and the like). how could you think of the 337? 337 is not as round as this one and like t. said, it supposedly did not even exist 15-20 years ago.

merry christmas,

t.

I have no idea re: the English market, but in the US ebay, I have seen similar cap toe specs, new (e.g., BB Peal), go for about $ 120 - 140. I think the fact they are used is a problem, people worry about dirt on the canvas. The fact that they are smaller sized may be a plus with the Asian market. If they were in the US, I might bite.

+2 If they were 9 UK I might bite. I've almost got enough shoes in my wardrobe that I could justify something so completely impractical.

To me the nail pattern & writing is classic C&J...An estimate that they were the 337 was just my opinion, as they reminded me of my Bedford's in shape, which with a bit of research is a 332! So my mistake, as stated earlier, I'm trying to get your opinions to ascertain the original maker of this shoe.

many makers over the years have used a single row of nails with a dovetail plug, and a single nail at the head.

I think C&J is the most likely comparing the writing to my modest collection.

As ManOfKent states, to me, the writing is what nails it. These shoes also came in dark green shoe bags, unfortunately now lost...As said, however, it's the writing on the inside which to me reveals the maker. However, somebody did mention Church's, and as far as i can research, the term custom grade is used by them which may explain the stamp on the sole. I think i can thus far rule out Sargent, (Grenson????), Cheaney, EG & Lobb (- Obviously

I can't quite make it out, but it looks like the shoes have two-piece heel counters, which also suggests C&J.

i.e. they're like this:

rather than like this:

I don't know why you're being so aggressive, but everyone else seems to believe that they are indeed C&J, and the facts point to that conclusion. The label on the inside is completely different to the one you posted.
