I have seen that ridged effect on quality cashmere (woven's) as well. I assume its done purposely. Here you have it on one of their Cashmere Scarves:

I bought a $35,000.00 "Kings Vicuna" Oxxford Clothes Overcoat, brand new, for $4,000.00 from a very good seller on e-bay.

I have several high end Cashmere Overcoats from Kiton, Brioni, etc., but none of them even comes close to this Vicuna from Oxxford

That's not surprising as Oxxford has difficulty selling them - a fellow in Chicago has brokered a few discount sales for them recently. They retail for a lot less than $35k though.
