Loro Piana has a mini book of 93% Vicuna/7% silk suitings. Perhaps somebody here should try one.

Be honest, you are holding out for some animal that biologists have yet to even find, that must be killed to be shorn, that yields like 1/16 a yard per fleece, and it takes a herd of them to make one sleeve.

I read in a recent news article that they've discovered many new species in the waters of Antarctica.

You get the picture.

Overcoat? I saw one at Harry Rosen like 10 years ago for 25K so that's surprisingly little change vis-a-vis everything else.

Oh great, yet more ammo for Artisan Fan to assert that global warming is a good thing.

10 years ago I believe the controls on vicuna were a lot more stringent. I believe things were relaxed a bit more recently when more humane shearing techniques were devised. That might explain why cost has not increased.

How do $3600 Vicuna shoes strike you?

Here's the Ebay listing

The maker is Andre of LA. Anyone ever hear of him?

Also, it's not clear whether these gorgeous shoes are made of cashmere or Vicuna. They are described as both "Vicuna cashmere" and as "the most expensive fabric in the world, costing $5,000 per yard.

The seller gives both a direct Email address and a phone number, so he's not trying to hide.

I think it's more likely these shoes are cashmere rather than pure Vicuna. What do you others think?

Either way, I think they are silly for $3,600!

Isn't baby cashmere just a marketing gimmick dreamed up to seduce people who still think fashion magazines are written by people who know about clothing (as opposed to brands and marketing)?

Sort of like the marketing of "Pashmina Cashmere". Seems like a marketing gimmick too.

I have a Sulka coat that is labeled Pashmina Cashmere, but I don't see anything that differentiates Pashmina Cashmere from any other fine cashmere.

No idea. My mommy got it for me for Christmas a couple of years ago. The little goat in the booklet is real cute.
