Agreed - the 8 eyelets sounds preferable to me.

    Very cool.

There is no decision to be made, clearly. I can say, from experience, that my biggest retail regrets are things that I've passed up at full retail, rather than things that I bought on sale.

    Thanks.

We'd do the 8 eyelets on the more informal, Boondocker like boot. However, I think that we'd go 10 eyelets on the Excavated boot.

I think that with an "Excavated" boot, we'd do 10 eyelets and a brogued toe cap. For me these choices would be more consistent with the image of a worn out, battered boot that was originally a dress uniform boot. I'd do the hobnailed heel as well, to really get that down right. There would be something a little more romantic, and little more gothic, in these choices.

For the "boondocker" like book, I think that plain toe would be the way to go, and 8 eyelets. I'm thinking of "On the Waterfront". Something that Marlon Brando or his crew might have worn:

The difference in the lasts - the 2030 for the Excavated boot, and 110 last for the modified boondocker, would reflect the different inspirations as well.

So has a decision been made on the second boot or are you going to do a vote again?

I'll probably do a short (3-4 day) vote. I found that the vote is not particularly useful in determining the actual demand for a particular boot, so it will be used to narrow things down from 3 boots to 2, etc..., instead of having a vote on a large number of boots, many of which don't have a lot of support. Right now, I see support for the excavated boot, and another for some sort of more "formal" makeup in red/brown French calf. There are 2 calls for a Copper Task boot, so I may take the ideas I find most sound, and maybe throw that out there as well. I think that it's just more productive to have a very quick vote, and then throw them up on the store, and see which boot actually has money backing it.

    Cheers,

    Fok.

    Fok,

What about the grey rough out chukka? It seemed like there was some interest for that as well.

Yeah, we can put that into the voting mix as well. I think that I'm going to keep it to 4 from which to vote, and then, only after I know if the leathers are actually in stock.

    Cheers,

    Fok.

Not sure if the deadline has passed...

I am wondering if there are people interested in some chunky service boot. I slightly prefer the 1950 model but 1940 will do. For the leather I have black CXL in mind but we can talk about that too.
What I have in mind right now is sth similar to these but with double mid-sole.

I am also thinking of doing a pair of boots similar to these cordovan beauties below but with structured toe, 2300 last. Absolutely love the eyelets. Assuming neither cordovan nor horsehide is available, I would need french calf or other similar kind of leather that has a refined look.

I like that boot, but I think that we'd want to settle on a single make for the red/brown, French calf, assuming that it is is available.

I'm still waiting on some stuff from Guy before I can make up a poll, so please, carry on.

    Cheers,

    Fok.

Alright, guys. Let's get those last minute ideas in. The first batch are looking terrific, btw. Good job, all!

I would really, really like these boots as shown on the Tate and Yoko website (not in my size). No sure if we can get the cost a little lower, but particularly the leather and brogue toe are my two favorite things about the boot. Perhaps I would be just as interested in a 2040 or 2045 last (not the 110 for this boot as I'd like it a little narrower so I can dress it up), and probably would prefer 10 brass vintage eyelets on the scotch grain service boot they have on the viberg site, but here is the link to what I'm talking about

It's actually red brown. It will be a cool makeup.

That is a Chromexel boot, so it would probably run the same as the last CXL boot, which is pretty close to the price that Tate and Yoko are charging. They charge some of the lowest prices for the boots that I've seen on the web.

As a last attempt, I propose this make: (assuming french calf is actually available)

    Service Boot with 10 eyelets
    2045 Last
Black or Red/Brown French Calf (lined)
    Partially Structured Toe
    cap toe
    Single natural midsole
Dainite (maybe a double leather sole)
    Vintage Brass Eyelets (maybe)

The boots will be similar to these shell cordovan boots but with a partially structured toe like these of the black hh boots.

BTW is Horween still selling leather to individuals via Tannery Row? Is it possible we order shells and send them to viberg to make boots? A lot of work to do I know...
