This reminds me of waxed calf, which can look and behave like shell and horsebutt. Crockett and Jones and Zonkey Boots regularly utilize waxed calf. Can't say for sure unless handled in person.

The box calf from viberg just didnt have that tight grain characteristic/ sheen that the horsebutt has.

It'll be easier to tell once they've really been worn. Even when it doesn't 'roll', HB breaks in different than calf.

Makes sense, are those derbies calf? Creasing looks more prominent.

The leather on my boots is really nice. If it is horsebutt as you suggest then I am a fan of horsebutt 😄

I’ve been loving these horsebutt 145s. The 110 last fits great in my usual 2030/1035 size.

Is your pair teacore? Someone posted on Reddit that they reached out to ask before ordering and was told yes. But they almost definitely are not. Oddly, they also have brass eyelets, and I'm wondering if that pair is a sample.

Mine appear to be struck through as well, and have no brown showing other than on the tongue (which may be standard black CXL?).

Are my eyes deceiving me? It looks like you get a bigger heel stack in dainite studded soles or lactea soles (probably any sole that’s not a ridgeway?) vs ridgeways?

The 2 witheredfig pictures aren’t ridgeways… why would we get more heel stack in non ridgeways?

Maybe I’m not understanding what you’re pointing out, but maybe it’s because the rubber block from the ridgeway heel is thicker. So less leather stack is required to achieve the height?

Do you think the heel stack size is the same in all 3 pictures I posted?

to me it looks significantly smaller on the ridgeway

This. Ridgeway is much thicker than dainite heel. If you used the same leather stack, you’d have a pretty high heel.
