there was a box calf and a horsebutt run back in the day, one or both were for mr porter. This looks more like horsebooty than calf to me. Nice pair! The boots that I mistakenly thought might be shell arrived.
I have to say I like them more than I expected. Still not 100% sure what the leather is, most likely french calf, possibly horsebutt?
They almost roll more than crease on the vamp which I like.
sadly I think I might have to move them on, they’re a touch snug on the right foot. I often have trouble with my right foot being a bit wider than left. My only other Vibergs 2030 CXL are half a size larger (half down from my US brannock) and fit better.
Here’s how they look with a well worn pair of white oak 501’s.

My hatchgrain DL ones did. But definitely a rarity.would have loved to see these in a double leather sole.
Don’t think they’re doing any leather soles on their stitchdown shoes now with the high spi.

I stand corrected. Those are some nice boots you’ve got. Post pics if you have any.
Dunno why they wouldn't do leather sole and stitchdown for me. I definitely thought of the hatchgrain pair, but didn't push the issue. My guess is that they ran into production difficulties making that run, or that it required adjustments of the equipment that they weren't willing to do for one pair.I stand corrected. This reminds me of waxed calf, which can look and behave like shell and horsebutt. Crockett and Jones and Zonkey Boots regularly utilize waxed calf. Can't say for sure unless handled in person. The boots that I mistakenly thought might be shell arrived.
