It’s not the first time new lasts went through name changes. 2030 Flat Toe Pull On last is the 2060 last. Flat toe 2045 is now 2055. 40288 slipper last is now the 2010 last.

I asked this question last week and had reached out to Mrrkt. The boots that are stamped 42977 are what Viberg called 2030 Cantilever on the line sheets. Mrrkt was going to reach out to Brett to ask how the 42977 relates to the 2020. I did not hear back, but the boots I was considering (black split HB) sold out in my size anyway.

It’s not that weird. It was an attempt to make an anatomical last (cantilever/1004 being the same thing) that was similar in shape to 2030.
Does the 1004 size different than the 2020 then?

I will say, walking around in these 42977s, they fit noticeably smaller than the 2020s I recently got from the Mr. P sale. They still work, but will 100% be a very thin sock boot. Maybe the Mr. P 2020s just fit differently for whatever reason, or maybe they make some tweaks as time went on.

I have a pair on the 1004 and they fit true to brannock size, which is also how Viberg * guided people during the brief run of the 1004s.

I have never tried the 2020, but the advice seems to be go down half size.

This was my hesitation on the 42977 black Split HBs - whether to go 1004 or 2020 sizing. Was not really interested in taking sizing risk on a pair I was only neutral on.

* more specifically, a conversation I had with Frank (imustbefrank), who used to work at Viberg.

I went with same as 2030/2020 on these (really the only choice I have a 13 anyway), and they will work, but a 13.5 would be better, if it existed.

I recall people generally took TTS on the 1004.

I think it would only work with the typical sizing down if you had D width or narrower. I remember people complaining they fit too long when taking their brannock size. But fitting too tight if taking a full size or half size down. Similar problem some have with 2020 being D width.

Makes sense. 2020 is pretty long.

Finally had some time to snap some pictures of these really interesting Service Boots. The Marbled Shell Cordovan is such a unique thing and always has some interesting changes to the way that a pattern looks.

I thought that this picture captures well the range of colors that one can expect to see in Marbled Black. You can see pure black to the greenish hue to the brown/tan-ish tones.
