I think there's only one width for 2040. Where does it say narrower?

Maybe they're trying to say that it's narrower than 2045, the other Munson last.

The 2040 is based on the Munson last, which is typically EE. So I think all they are saying is that this is a slightly narrower version of the Munson last. But this isn't a narrower version of Viberg's 2040 last.

Also, is it especially important to communicate sleek forms specifically for the trip from battlefield to headquarters? What about from the barracks to the battlefield? Or the mess hall to the latrine?

Yea, I guess that statement only affects people like me, after getting misinformed by DR themselves during one of our email exchange that the 2040 last was in EE width Not a bad strategy DR..
