Anyone have the black or brown calf Chelseas? I feel like chelseas are an unpopular style here (maybe because they're basics?) but I've been wanting some lately so though I'd ask..
I’ve owned two pairs of Viberg Chelsea’s - one in milkshake suede and another in veg tanned camel and both just didn’t fit my foot super well. I’m D/borderline E width and I was spilling over the forefoot in the suede pair and the camels just didn’t fit me great. I like the style - just wish they made one in a modified 1035 last or something. My pair of rider fritz Chelsea’s are great

I tried to jump on the black calf Chelseas yesterday on the .com while they popped up at $340. Probably would not have worked though. I have been interested in some Viberg Chelseas too - they look great in photos, but in use I have seen some strange creasing, which is typical of a lot of Chelseas. Thus I have been sticking to RM Williams (they offer wide sizes too) - sort of like why bother with anyone else for Chelseas, especially given their comfort factor? If I go higher end than that, I think Crockett & Jones offers nicer stuff than Viberg in this category at similar prices, with some gorgeous styles.
I have not had that experience at all (2.5yrs of ownership). The Viberg chelsea is way more rugged/chunky than RM Williams. I wear my RM Williams with dress slacks to work and the Viberg's on the weekend with jeans. I would agree that my RM Williams are more comfortable than the Viberg, but there are too many other factors that could contribute to that (leather vs. dainite, suede vs. CXL, different lasts...)

Are you interested in the style or leather more? I have a pair of natty CXL chelseas
a little bit of both, but some natty cxl also sounds nice for more casual use. They'd probably be considered more office friendly than most of my footwear

See my post above. Obviously offices have different dress codes, but they can maybe work with chinos if it's more casual. Definitely not any type of tailoring like the RM Williams can

Worst part of cuoio is remembering how to spell it. I just know there's a 'c' and a bunch of vowels

Good to know. Part of my fear has been that I have E/EE width, and it sounds like the 2050 may not be good for me - maybe I am wrong.

I have also been able to take advantage of some business travel to Australia and make a couple of RM Williams purchases. With the positive currency exchange rate and VAT refund at the airport, it means RM Williams for about $350 USD.

No, I think you are spot on. After a bit of walking I get some pinching in my pinky toe

I just got my rebuild back from Viberg, and am thrilled with the result. These were the Noir Vitello boots from DR originally on the 1035 last. The 2030 last always fit me better, so I had them swapped over to the 2030 last on Cat’s Paw half soles. Viberg also changed the vamp from cap toe to plain toe for me.

Every time someone rebuilds a boot to 2030, a fairy dies.

How do they remove the cap toe and not leave any of the holes from the stitching?

They had to replace the vamp due to the last change, so I asked them to go plain toe on the new vamp. It appears to have the leather toe puff rather than the previous celastic toe puff, and is almost as soft as an unstructured boot.
