for a casual look, i prefer it to have the vibram sole. leather sole always makes it dressier
Nice Oxfords there billymax, which is the makeup?
Me too, I not own any shoe with leather sole. The last time I've used one I was 9.
I like too much the comfort and grip from the wedge soles, even if some people says that it looks goofy.
I would consider a chukka. I normally wear boots or oxford lace ups though but would still much prefer a boot, just because I love the way they look.
I do realise that many people are over the 2030 and feel like it's been done enough, or just want something different from the usual offerings, so I'll leave it for you all to decide.
Guy said that in the US they don't have a single account that sells pull up boots, and that the majority prefers Service Boots. Here in Europe the turn up toe is the preferred choice, follow it for Service Boots. Japan is a whole different market, more biased in to rugged/authentic styles.
Would anyone be interested in an 8-inch service boot? I'm not married to the 2030 but I would want to keep a sleek profile. I'm open to leather choices. Brogue cap toe would be sexy. Sort of like the Crocket and Jones Islay but a la Viberg.
Do they even offer the option to make an 8 inch service boot?
The Smokejumpers are 8-inch boots. I'm imagining a less rugged, slightly more dressy version. A combination of the two, really. If it's MTO I don't see why they couldn't do an 8 inch version, assuming they had enough of whatever leather.
I know there are no pull-ups available in NA. I wish there were. I got a pair of MTO brown rough out Short Shifts 3 years ago with a black 2021 sole. I love them. I'm a musician in Nashville and wear them on stage all of the time. I've gotten loads of comments on them. I would love to get my hands on a black pair of the Western Pull-ups on a 110 last with a big friggin thick Vibram 2021 sole. I've tried to get them from Japan, but can't find anything bigger than a 9 and most of the Japanese Viberg dealers don't ship to the US. I also wear several pairs of the 145 oxfords on a 110 last with 2021s. I got into Viberg because of the first pair of brown CXL 145 oxfords with a 2021 that I saw on the Inventory website approx 4 years ago. Since then I've been a certifiable Viberg nut and wear nothing else. Love em all.
I'm a minority here on SF and I know that the "orthopedic" look referenced here isn't what is stocked by dealers now in the US and Canada. I still like seeing everyone's photos and recent buys even though I don't like 2030 Service boots. Vibergs are works of unparalleled craftsmanship and there is nothing to not like about good shoe porn.
With the Viberg retail website, I'm not sure why the NA, European and Japanese markets should be viewed so separately. Why not try a little variety on the website and see what happens? I wouldn't think it would be too difficult to throw a few options up on the website when the factory is cranking out inventory for Japan.
I don't post much here on SF, but there you have it - my "Orthopedic Manifesto."
I will do whatever the community wants and will actually buy. We can do up to 3 makeups at a time, and will ship anywhere outside Italy, Russia, and war zones...
My personal tastes are for wider, err rounded toe lasts, wedge soles, and lighter colored leathers, sorta like what Visvim might do.
The Bobcats in Harness Leather shown in photos in the post #4804 by Urbanswoodsman last May I would buy in a heartbeat.
That sounds cool. The general consensus seems to be somewhere else. Everyone seems pretty happy with the recent MTOs and they do look excellent. I recently bought the black rough out derbys from the Bureau Belfast on the 1035. I think the 110 last still fits me better, but these derby's are mighty fine. I love em. I'm still a happy Viberg camper.
These are merlot CXL with a black tongue and black 2021 soles. Several years ago I copied a few of photos from Japanese websites and Bread & Butter and sent them to Morgan and got these along with brown rough out Short Shifts and a pair of chukkas made from a real thick harness leather that I think they called "predator" leather, all on 2021 wedge soles. I have a pair of Alden shell cordovan long wing bluchers that I wear for dress, but everything else is more casual wedge soles.
I am telling you guys! 8 inch service boot, dainite sole (no lugs), maybe even plain toe. How about the 2045 or 2040? I wouldn't mind a rounded toe I just don't want major chunk. The idea would be to do a tall work-boot style with a dressy flare.
Harness leather! Or something in a natural color? Tan?
Maybe. We already are doing the copper task service boot on the 110. Depends on the momentum you can build up.
Anyone have examples of harness leather?
I did a google image search and some kinky stuff popped up.
