Got a question about care for CXL service boots. I'm curious to know how often people run them down with leather cream? I got into an argument with a friend who insisted whenever I scuff them up that I should apply some cream to the spot. This seems excessive to me, especially since the CXL scuffs almost every day. Guy told me in an email some time ago to only use the shoe cream maybe once or twice a year.

I realize it all depends on the look you're going for, but I'm curious to hear people's attitudes. My only disclaimer is that I do not baby my Viberg's at all. I treat them like a hard-wearing pair of heavy duty boots in an urban environment.

You can brush them if you like.
Most small scuffs that don't break the skin/crust will heal with brushing.
That is honestly all I do to mine.
I use Reno to clean them once in a great while.

I go with the conditioner once a year approach with my CXL.

As do I. I used to use Reno but recently have been using Venetian Shoe Creme and find it to moisturize quite well

I use Reno now as well. I would like to try VSC and that will probably be my next purchase.

the moral of the story is, use Reno sparingly. they should rename it, Reno 911

I bought 1L of Lexol conditioner off Amazon for cheap. That's all I will use moving forward. The guys in the shoe care thread mentioned VSC having turpentine or something in it.

Interesting. I'd be surprised to learn that Viberg would suggest anything but the best treatment for their boots...

@bkotsko In your navy shell Viberg's you've got "blind eyelets" but do they still have metal eyelet rings (dunno what is the correct term for them) that just don't show, or are they just holes in leather without any reinforcing?

"And finally there’s the blind eyelet, which places the metal grommet on the inside of the upper for a cleaner exterior appearance."

Thanks that clears the terminology nicely! Though, I'd still be interested if they have blind eyelets or not. IIRC a while back someone here had a pair of Viberg's chukkas that didn't have eyelets at all and he was wondering if he should take them to a local cobbler to add some kind of eyelets.
