You can have any boot put on any of their lasts. Are you ordering from a store, or directly from Viberg? If it's from a shop that carries Viberg, you're limited to whatever last the boots they carry were made with, but if you order directly from Viberg, you can have your boots made custom down to the smallest detail.

I have a bunch of questions:

Which last is the most formal? The 2030?

I checked the Viberg Blog and they mentioned that they are going to begin doing Goodyear welts. I thought that Goodyear welts were the standard. What does Viberg currently use? Has anybody ever gotten a Viberg boot resolved. I always thought that Viberg boots were famous for the guaranty that the company put on them.

I have only one pair of Vibergs and was thinking about maybe getting another. How long do custom boots take? Can somebody with some experience fill be in on how long it will take and what do I have to do to get started?

Also, has anybody ever bought a cordovan boot from them? What's the difference between cordovan and horsehide?

One last question: has anybody ever gotten leather soles shoe from Viberg. I've seen a ton of Dainite, but never a traditional leather sole.

Thanks. Sorry again for all the questions

Yes, it is a long post. It is indicative of how lacking Viberg's website is. Most of the info augustwest is seeking should be easy to find on their site, but unfortunately, it isn't. So how about it, Brett?

The 2030 is the most streamlined last Viberg uses. I would say it would be the closest thing to "formal" with respect to their lasts.

Viberg currently uses stitch-down/nail-down construction, which I believe is the most sturdy and heavy means of making work boots. It's also way more time consuming than welting. Goodyear welts are the industry standard because manufacturers can produce a lighter product in greater numbers than they could if they made footwear like Viberg does. Viberg is definitely known for the way in which they stand behind their boots. As for whether anyone has had a Viberg boot resoled: of course many people have! Soles wear out and need to be replaced, regardless of who made the boot they're on.

I just received a pair of custom boots from Viberg (via Four Horsemen) last week, and it took just over 5 months from the day I placed the order to the day they were on my feet. To get started, contact Viberg. I believe that this point you could ask to speak with Brett, Morgan, or Guy.

Although I've never bought a shell cordovan boot from Viberg, I believe the difference between the shell and regular horsehide is that they're two different leathers that undergo two different tanning processes, from two different parts of the horse. Horse hide is just leather made from the hide of a horse, which shell cordovan is specifically from the hind quarters. It takes 6 months to tan shell, and because the hind quarters are just a small section of the animal, it's a rarer material. Check out the Horween website for their description of shell cordovan.

I've seen a few folks online with leather soles. Check out the Viberg thread on the Iron Heart site (http://www.ironheart.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=823.0). There are lots of interesting make ups, some of which feature leather soles.

Yeah, I saw too that they are getting ready to do Goodyear welting -- I don't know, I really like the nailed-down traditional Viberg welt. Not sure why they'd want to go to Goodyear, unless it's easier/cost-effective. But, I mean, everyone else does Goodyear, which is fine, but the nailed-down makes Viberg stand out.

I got a pair with leather soles a few months ago, but then had Vibram half soles put on. I will try to post a pic of before and after. The leather sole looks great I think (very old fashioned), but I didn't like it for walking in -- taps a lot, and also slippery on tile and smooth carpet (though not on concrete).

[[for some reason it won't let me post pics right now; I'll try again later.]]

As far as I know, Viberg isn't discontinuing their traditional stitch/nail down process, they're just adding the option of Goodyear welting. I imagine Goodyear will be the staple, but you could still have a custom boot made the old fashioned way.

I think he runs or owns Four Horseman.
I'm confused as to how this will work.
    Who are we ordering from?
That's if I manage to bag what I'm after.
