Vest Without Jacket for Summer Wedding

One of my good friends is getting married this summer, and to my dismay, his woman is requesting that all the groomsmen dress in vests, dress shirts, and dress pants (she calls it "1940s style", not sure where she got that). The wedding will be outdoors in the Pacific NW, and will take place during the afternoon.

I've tried convincing him that this is a bad idea and will make us look like we're playing dress up or something, but I think that's what we'll end up with.

My question is, given that the bride and groom have decided this is what they want, is there any way to make this look decent? Should I simply go for a navy or charcoal 3 piece suit without the jacket? Tie or no tie? My initial thought is to get a charcoal vest to match my charcoal suit pants, and to pair that with a white dress shirt and glen plaid tie. Any thoughts or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

It's their day. It sounds more like it's her day actually. Do whatever they want. If you already mentioned it lightly, that's probably all you can do. Smile and do the right thing for your wedding.

This you have to coordinate with the bride in order to, in turn, coordinate with all the other groomsmen.

Firstly, it's not your wedding so just go along with what they say. Second, I'd say for an outdoor summer wedding, charcoal might be a little too severe so I'd go with navy. Actually I'd probably be tempted just to buy myself a new 3 piece suit.

Also, the tie/no tie decision should be run past the couple as well. Chances are they have some sort of overall aesthetic in mind that you should be complying with.
