Vest over a blazer/suit as outerwear. Opinions?

Yes, I'm a bit of a sucker for the Pitti look...or should I say the Cucinelli look with a light puffer vest worn as outerwear. I live in a warm climate and maybe wear an overcoat four times a year, so outerwear has always been a challenge. A light overcoat would be my choice but I simply cannot find one.
I tried a vest (wool shell, buttons, no zipper) and it looked sharp, but I had a hard time getting past the fact that my blazer was about 3-4 inches longer than the vest.
Thoughts? Suggestions?

I refuse to answer before I've seen pictures of this "sharp" masterpiece.

Well, this is the look I had in mind. Not me, but you get the idea. :)

Don't do it, man. Just... don't do it.

Someday you'll thank me for steering you away from this "sharp" mistake.

My solution on warmer Fall/Winter days is a cashmere vest under my blazer, so the blazer serves as outerwear.
