Vest exposure

How much of a vest should be exposed above the buttoning point of a buttoned jacket? Is it just personal preference?

I recently purchased a couple MTM three-piece suits and specified a low button stance on the jackets, so this question came to mind when I first tried them on and found more vest showing than is typical. I've seen three-piece suits that barely had any vest visible, so I thought I'd ask.

I suppose you have a bit more control over this when you purchase a three-piece vs. wearing an odd vest or v-neck sweater.

Thanks!

It depends on the buttoning point as you say, but there is no "right" amount of exposure. Typically it would be 1-2 buttons.
