Aren't they pretty much always « in » AKA a wardrobe staple? I mean there were times where jeans were out (think late 90s) but, generally speaking, you don't need to worry too much about trends when buying a velvet blazer.
I have a black, 1 button, peak lapel Paul Smith velvet blazer that I posted in the WAYWT at some point. Guys with less monochrome wardrobes can do very well with plum, brown or navy coloured ones. I have a soft spot for a lighter shade of blue myself but the one I had in that very colour died a few years ago, at which point I purchased the PS blazer.
