Velvet blazer - what pants to wear?

I'm looking to pair a dark blue velvet blazer with something to make an outfit for a casual New Year's party. I don't have the blazer yet, and velvet is totally not me, but I'm looking to try something a little different. I want something navy blue but I'm wondering what type of pants to pair it with, worsted or flannel wool? Tie... silk? wool? knit?

Like I said, totally not me. So I appreciate the advice.

I wear a blue velvet jacket with a pair of dark blackwatch pants and silk tie. Works for me.

I'd wear gray flannels, tweed, or jeans. Maybe cords. Probably not worsted. Definitely not blue pants.

A knit tie in silk or wool should be great.

In most threads, the first recommendation is always the best.

gray flannel or wool trousers would work. Or since you re going a little "wild", prince of wales

At the risk of sounding ignorant, what's prince of wales?

Why navy blue? This, hopefully silk velvet< jacket looks good with flannels but you can wear it with jeans, worsted (fine guage) wool pants. Several textured wools would work like a barathea.

I think it's more their lack of versatility. For a party they work well.

I don't think I'll pair it with navy pants, that would be a bit too much navy. The idea of gray wool pants is what I thought of going with, but I'm unsure of whether they should be worsted or flannel. I'll try it with both I suppose and see.
