Next time you are in town we are going to Green Zebra - If I could eat like that every day, I would consider being at lest 2/3 vegetarian (as in only eating animal proteins 1 meal a day). The thing is, there is more variety in the world of flora than fauna... of course the ideal is to be an Omnivore like the alien overlords that created us intended, but if you know what to do with them, veggies rock.

FTFY - except I guess they would be sea fruits (not that there's anything wrong with that)

I love vegetables. I eat more of them than anybody I know. Still, vegetarianism is a blight on humanity.

All the more reason to go to GZ - you would seriously love it. I assume you are familiar w/ Shaun McLain, but for those who aren't, he immediately preceded Grant Achatz as the exec. chef at Trio. Has 3 restaurants in Chicago (stakehouse, seafood, and veg) and a new place in the Cosmopolitan called Sage. It cracks me up that I know a few girls who always want to eat "healthy" but then they ignore all the vegetables on their plate. I really think they have been indoctrinated to believe "healthy = bland"

Not all Kosher is bland- it's just redundant.. too many of the same flavors. That said, pastrami is a wonderfly flavorful thing. So is Cholent , if it's done right. I've had briskets that sing and kosher offal that would blow your mind (my Aunt Rosie obm made some killer brains). Plus all the fantastic vegetarian stuff you can imagine.

that's only true of ashkenazi (and that's because it's mostly central european). sephardic kosher is pretty great stuff.

Yes, too bad they missed out on all of our other great traits.

+1, I have used one or two Moosewood books in the past with great luck. The Moosewood restaurant is awesome, I went to college in the same town and despite my general

towards most vegetarians, I've enjoyed many meals there.

+1 to the Madison books and Bittman.

I think vegetarianism is fine but that all copies of all Moosewood-related cook books should be summarily shredded. Those recipes are just AWFUL.

I guess its too late, but the best vegetarian cook book is the one from The Grit:

http://www.amazon.com/Grit-Cookbook-.../dp/1556526482

The grasshopper cake recipe is the best I've ever tasted, frostings ok but the cake itself is so moist its unbelievable. Now we just make the cake and sub in whatever frosting we feel like. Plus a bunch of other recipes that are palatable for carnivores.

Second best is Vegan with a Vengence, by the same girl who did the Veganomicon before she got all chi-chi. VwV has ordinary ingredients that you can find anywhere.

http://www.amazon.com/Vegan-Vengeanc...tt_at_ep_dpi_5

Yeah, its vegan, but you can just sub in milk or eggs where you want.
