Vegetable Tanned shoe care tips?

I'm just wondering to what extent I could/should take care of my vegetable tanned shoes? I've heard things like I shouldn't use wax or cream polish, I was wondering if that was true? Could I put mink oil on them, condition them, clean them with a leather cleaner? I just want to protect them for the winter season.

Veg tanned leathers actually need a bit more attention than chrome tanned leathers. Condition regularly, keep polished and keep them away from heat. And unless they are shoes intended for casual or even everday use, avoid the mink oil.
