In your opinion, does Vass or CJ Handgrade have better Leander quality? Maybe the term quality is a bit too broad but I am referring to overall feel, suppleness, color, and durability. I am looking at getting a double monk made (MTO), and I was leaning towards the Vass but the CJ Handgrade Repton looks good as well. Leather qiai and color is very important in my choice. Thanks for your help!

Vass leather is a little thicker and softer in my opinion. Vass do not antique their leathers at all though.

I bought a Vass Old English a year ago and compared it to a C&J wing monk made for Brooks Brothers

The quality of the Vass Oxblood calf leather was much better than the C&J. It was initially firmer (not stiffer)...but has molded well to my foot. The C&J molded faster and was softer, yet I gave the C&J to Goodwill as I found it to be too soft.

The leather for my C&J was not to C&J Handgrade quality

To buy the Repton you have to shop at Ben Silver. Because of that, I will never own them.

Also, the Vass leather is better. As stated above, it seems to mold to your foot better. They are very different, however. I would suggest handling both before making this purchase.

Almost everyone knows someone who has a bad experience at Ben Silver. Not to mention the extraordinarily high mark ups.
