Looks like there is a perfect shoe for me.
The seller definitely must be someone here or on ask andy im sure, but just one question to all with the topy/tap experience:

Does the heel tap they put into the heel, I see they screw or nail them in. Does this impart any kind of premature damage to the new heels or soles?
Thanks.

I'd prefer not having topys added, ok price for slightly worn. Otherwise beautiful shoes. What's your normal American size? Let me know how they fit if you win.

I can understand the taps especially if one usually wears down the heels quickly, but - putting a topy on a sole like that is just wrong IMHO.

my normal american size is truly 9.5 E. but i mostly own all 10 D in all my shoes.
i got a pair of vass spectators in 43 a couple weeks ago, i know they are supposed to be american 10 , but they are impossibly tight and i cannot wear them.
i think these 44 , 11s will suffice.

i definitely had to go up 1 whole size from 43 .

these ebay shoes are not worn. soles and heels are clean. just tried on at store.

+ 1 on the no topys but those shoes look brand new so the price is definitely fair. The heel taps are nailed in and they don't damage the soles in any way. Enjoy them diorshoe, especially after your frustration with the size 43 specs.

Don't these look a lot like your new Santoni though? I think you'll have to sell them now

well, i did return them brand new. never tried on except at the store, and at home i just held them in admiration.

Considering the Vass would cost you 2/3 the price of the Santoni, I'd say you made the right choice.

no offense

i do think the vass though at 2/3 price is a slightly better deal though.

Vass are 10x the shoes that Santoni FAM are. Trust me on this, if you chucked the Santonis and went with all Vass you would be a thousand times better off. The Santonis are just not that well made a shoe. Period.

My thoughts:
(And I've owned FAM and VASS)
Now I own no FAM

I will say that the Santoni is a very well made in the limited and FAM higher end line. However, the Vass on the U last are superior to me. However I can appreciate if somone wants a more artsy shoe and aggressive shoe, but it's just not for me.

VASS U last and F last:
1. The lasts are more elegant than Santoni 99% of the time
2. The styling of Vass is more elegant, ideal for business, the leathers slightly better, thinner but richer, and the colors better suited for business.
3. Whereas the Vass can go from suits to casual the Santonis usually stay in the casual area.
4. Many of the FAM are just too frankenshoe for me
5. I do wish they would make the Bristol and some of their classic lines at the FAM level of quality. They would sell alot more shoes and get alot more respect around here. But sadly, Santoni like their best quality shoes to be the least versatile and bordering of just plain ugly many times.

Beats me what their marketing strategy is on this one.
Quality wise I think they are extremely well made.
Styling though is very ostentatious; not understated and elegant, and that is why Vass is the winner for me.

i do agree that santoni makes a more 'avantgarde' italianate shoe with some aggressive styling.
i do not like the ones with the frankistein stitching or the crazy bevelled waist riding up all the way up the quarters.

but however, the nordstrom ones: FAM wholecut florence, or the fritz algonquin toe, etc. these are stylized just enough for a very beautiful artsy shoe.
in my opinion they can be worn with suits.
i think it comes down to is this: if one owns a small limited collection, maybe santoni is not the way to go, try vass and you can fill in a good solid dress foundation in footwear.
or if you are someone like aportnoy , a shoe connossuier who dont need any more shoes , santoni does offer a very different and aggressive shoe that can fill in that unique spot in the wardrobe.
