I'm aware that this is becoming more and more common: young (20s) men deciding that they don't want to have children and undergoing a vasectomy procedure. I'm curious to know if anyone here has done this. How do you feel about it?

And maybe, just in general, what are thoughts about young men getting a vasectomy?

yes, this was inspired by Eason's thread.

There was globetrotter thread on this some years ago. I recall him saying that it hurt.

Lots of people, I'm sure, will say that you don't really know if you want kids at a young age, or that "you'll change your mind." Many, I'm sure, do. I'm also sure that many who do take that step do so rashly; adolescence is so extended these days, so perhaps the comments from the older and wiser are not so misplaced.

From 16 or so into my late twenties, I did a lot of caretaking, with about a 7 month break in a decade. Dropped out of HS and grad school on account of it, and honestly, I'm done. I don't want to have to plan my existence around a child who is dependent on me. I just don't. It's been about two years since I was doing that, and I'm still tired. I don't want the worry and the fear. I have room for one other person in my life -- a woman who can stand on her own two feet and needs my love, but not my paternalism. And if we decide on forever, it will be time to cut that cord.

In your 20's you may think you know exactly how your life is going to go and what you're going to want later...but that would make you a 1 in a billion exception. For most people that I know, wants and plans change quite a bit during that time. Hard for me to think that making that kind of decision at that age makes much sense, but only the person could make that decision, I suppose.

As to getting one...I had one a while back. I really recommend finding out a lot about your doctor. My doctor referred me to one of his partners to do the procedure. He was an older man. I didn't really do my research well enough and didn't find out until it was too late that he had graduated from the Josef Mengele College of Medicine. My experience was not good (needless to say). I'm pretty sure that I could endure waterboarding just fine after having gone through that 1 hour torture session.

On the other hand, many guys I know said their experience was no big deal at all.

Just do your homework and get references.

A vascectomy doesn't affect your ability to do this.

Actually, for castration to prevent the voice from deepening, it has to happen before the voice changes. Too late for the Conneman. A baritone he shall remain, even if ball-less.

I have thought about getting this done. I am 26. You can always freeze ***** in a sperm bank if you want kids down the road. I know that I REALLY do not, however.

In all likelihood yes. The good news however, is that it will qualify you for a lucrative job protecting the harems of wealthy Arab shieks.

1. Consult with your physician.
2. Have everything lopped off.
3. ?????
4. PROFIT!!!
