I'm trying to decide between a Valentino Roma which I can get for $300 versus a Benjamin Sartorial for $495. The Valentino is 70% wool and 30% mohair while the Benjamin is 100% wool (140s). In terms of overall quality, fit, and value which is the best buy? Thanks.

Did you try them on? Which of them did fit better on you? Which fabric did you like more? Wool/mohair and a s140 wool are quite different when touching it.

No. I'm ordering them online. I was just curious if anyone else had seen them first hand.

I have the Benjamin. It's quite nice for the price. Strong value for money. Don't get working buttonholes; it's pretentious on RTW.

I wouldn't go with either. Look at Polo Ralph Lauren. For $500, you can find Polo suits.

What makes mtm or bespoke need functioning buttonholes anymore so? I like functioning buttons simply because I don't like having "fake" buttons just sewn onto the sleeve that don't do anything...

I have a Benjamin, and it's a very nice suit for the money.

I like working buttonholes if the suit is basted for it--feels funny having fake buttons if I can avoid it. The working buttonholes aren't in themselves pretentious, as no one but you will know about it--what's pretentious is leaving a button or two undone. Don't do that.

MTM no, but for bespoke, you can justify the pretension.
