Century 21 has a large V.K. Nagrani sock selection for $7.97 ea. I got a sack load yesterday at the main store in NYC. I was suprised to find them so cheap.

I've been wondering lately about Nagrani's long-term health if the socks are regularly available at deep discount. Perhaps they are less arteeznal than I thought and can afford to have their stuff sit in clearance bins. Or maybe the markup is sufficient to compensate. But it doesn't seem a desirable situation for a company that I would presume lacks the reach of, say, Pantherella.

I'll preface this by saying that I own over 60 pairs of Nagrani's. My understanding is that many of the socks that show up at Century 21 are irregulars that did not make it through Nagrani's QC. A certain well-known seller of Nagrani socks here in the SF has told me that he carefully examines the socks before buying and for every pair that he keeps he will put back 2 or 3 pair. By contrast, I've purchased socks from at least one other seller that were definitely, less-than-perfect irregulars. Also, as with any other manufacturer, some of the designs that looked good on paper but did not work as successfuly in fabrication, tend to find their way to places like Century 21. So you need to either pick through them carefully....or make sure that your SF sock seller...is "bonafide."

Yes, but not all. I think sockfetish may be "connected"?

I'm very much inclined to agree with this assessment. Last week I bought a couple pair from her and I was quite impressed. In addition to the 2 pair of (obvious) 1st quality socks... when I opened the padded envelope and found the enclosed Nagrani brochure, the "official" Nagrani zippered, nylon travel pouch, and the Nagrani note card...all made for a very pleasant surprise.

I was not too impressed with the Nagrani socks. I have a few, but I doubt I will end up wearing them much. The real bargain at C21 should be the Lanvin 100% silk OTC socks - just over $11 a pair. A couple of pairs of Brioni there for around the same price.
