Using Shoe Polish On Leather Gloves?

I just bought a pair of gloves from leatherglovesonline (great web store). The only problem is they are a slightly different color than what I was expecting when I opened the package.

The color I got was dark tan, and I wish them to be slightly more reddish to match a pair of my shoes. I was thinking of using a burgundy color wax on the gloves.

I wanted to ask if anyone has had experience using colored shoe polish, or a sealant such as pecard's or obernauf to darken/color leather gloves. Or if anyone who may be a leather expert or works with leather can give a valid reason why this won't work. Any info appreciated!!

Shoe polish would color the gloves but I would worry about it rubbing off on things I touched. I would recommend proper leather dye (from Tandy, or from a cobbler shop) instead.

I've used obernauf's on a few pairs of leather gloves for waterproofing and to help soften a pair of calf gloves that hardened after they got wet. The two already dark brown pairs didn't change colors much. The one pair of tan gloves darkend up very nicely. They're a teeny bit "sticky" from the beeswax but it goes away after a few wearings.
Another side affect is that the gloves stretched afterwards. One of the pairs was a little tight around the knuckles pre-obernauf's and afterwards they stretched in the right spots and fit better.

I would probably seal the gloves with Pecard's after, hopefully to minimize color loss. BTW I colored a pair of shoes with shoe dye before and the rubbed off a lot for a while. From my experience I would worry more about color coming off from actual dying more than from a shoe polish such as kiwi.
