I just finished an interesting article in the latimes about used clothing, and some of it gets sent to africa and the effect of this to the african textile industry. But, I'm confused because they mention how charities like Goodwill sells their stuff to wholesalers by the pound, and how this gets graded into different categories. The good stuff gets sent to vintage stores, while grade Africa A and B gets sent to Africa. My question is where in this cycle does the stuff I see in the Goodwill store fit in. I'm thinking of 2 possibilities: that the wholesalers who buy the stuff for vintage shops come in and buy the stuff first and the stuff left over is what we see in the store. Or, that these wholesalers buy what's left over after I go and buy what I want.
