Remake wankers.

Seriously, how is it still possible for TV execs to get paid for coming up with the genius idea of remaking a foreign show? The ratio of succesful to awful remakes is so low...

Bro, I saw a preview for what was supposed to be a US version of The IT Crowd.

What the ****.

OK so its exactly the same as the Inbetweeners but set in America with American actors. Why not just show the British one and save the cash?

Less marketable, I would imagine.

I don't think the nonchalance of the British version would translate well to the MTV generation either.

It's just going to be fart jokes and explosions and Superbad references and ****. The thing that makes the UK version so funny is the fact that there aren't ridiculous, extenuating circumstances every episode -- it's close to the reality of the British high school experience in all it's pedestrian, menial glory.

If they try to jazz it up, then they're missing the ******* point.

Based on the commercials, it looks close to a scene for scene remake, which makes it pointless and probably painfully unfunny. The original was brilliant and I love it unreservedly. MTV's will be utter ****.

Which reminds me- MTV's version of Skins got the cancellation it deserved, right?

Awful. Literally scene for scene. Skins was the same too as JustChris pointed out. I don't get why MTV doesn't get a clue from the Office. The US and UK versions are only the same when it comes to the basic elements of the characters. But by the end of the first US season, it was going in a completely different direction than the UK one. They kept some similar story lines but they Americanized it and made the characters easier to relate to for viewers familiar with a US office environment and the show did (or is still doing) brilliantly.

MTV must realize that with the Internet, Netflix, and instant streaming everywhere that many kids are tuning into Channel 4, ITV and BBC programming just like their British counterparts. A half-assed rip with American slang just isn't going to cut it.

And I feel like there have been American shows like this before, that have been at least mildly successful, if not a little bit entertaining.

MTV ***** everything up.

So, was this as bad as expected?

Does the UK version go by the same name?
