Upgrading from Z Zegna suits - Toronto, Canada

Hi guys,

I wear my suits for work and always bought z zegna, Armani, etc.. off the rack. Recently bought an e zegna suit and the difference is quite Stark in craftsmanship, material, and fit.

I generally prefer a form fitting style and wear most stuff off the rack well. Was wondering if there was anything under 2k CAD that would be a noticeable upgrade from Zzegna, as I'd like all my suits to be nicer.

Thanks!

You guys really feel it's a full canvas from there is nicer than Corneliani or Canali? Even full canvas Suitsupply? Ty I don't have a ton of time to go look at suits so I'm trying to narrow it down alot.

Seems like you’re stuck in certain brands. If so, then go for it.

not sure why full canvassing matters since Z Zenga is your point of reference, and they are usually fused. But S&M offers full canvassed suits.

Again, if brands matter then you already seem to have your answer.

I doubt you can get Canali or Corneliani for less than 2k CAD unless you are referring to sale prices. Anyhow I have jackets/suits from S&M as well as from Canali, Cantarelli, Caruso. You’d be hard pressed to tell them apart by fabric and construction quality other than the Spier jackets being half canvassed. But I don’t think I can tell when wearing them. Another option to look at is Samuelsohn. Very good stuff, made in Canada.

Being Canadian I’m surprised you haven’t discovered Samuelsohn. Dollar for dollar, perhaps the best value in tailored clothing.

Canali can be had for half that at HR Outlet when they have a sale.

Z Zegna has poor fabric quality and they're made in Spain. Samuelsohn or S&M would definitely be better.

I'm not tied to a brand, just learning. Why do you guys like spyer and Mackay vs suit supply? Thanks again

First of all S&M is an styleforum affiliate. They are present here and you can talk directly to them.

Second, a suit is only as good as it fits. Suitsupply often recommend a very slim and short fit. If you live near S&M head down there and look at the suits and maybe let Tim fit you. They might have some of the RTW full canvas suits that they made this fall in store. Which is probably the best value suit you can find.

If you want an Italian suit go to some other store, but be sure you trust the sales associate that fits you.

Interesting, I was just using the spreadsheet on this forum and it says suit supply m2m is the best value. Will Susu or SM let me use a fabric that is a similar quality to an E Zegna suit? The cuts look good to me otherwise.

That spreadsheat is old, no one maintains it.

I think both will let you choose among many fabrics, atleast S&M. Check out their online custom mtm as a pointer.

Oh so how should I choose a nice suit then? Was thinking sm or Susu for my daily and then some fancy Italian (e Zegna etc..) for special occasions, but I don't know what's good value around the 2k price point
