Does anyone else have shoes that they cannot bring themselves to wear? I have a shoe wardrobe of 200+, and I do wear them, for the most part, on a rotation. However I have about 10 pairs that I cannot bring myself to wear.... my Cleverley Russian leather boots; #2 shell Alden longwings; St. Crispin wholecuts.... every time I consider wearing them I think they look too nice to ruin. Anyone else have this issue? or should I seek professional help? :puzzled:

Professional help, fam.

Admittedly, it is hard to step into a new pair of shoes the first time as they look so nice. But shoes aren't art work, sooo...

Absolutely - if you have them as a collection - I keep some I wear the hell out of; some I don't wear at all....and thats really the issue - why wear 100 pairs at 5%, when you can wear 20 pairs at 100%. Part of the fun is wearing some out, resoling them too. Others get kept in original condition, why not!

I get it but I also feel like it's a waste to just have them sit in the closet

Nope. If I don't wear it. I get rid of it. I'm not a minimalist but it's a waste to have things I sent use or wear.

Shoes don't seem to me like the sort of thing one buys for the purpose of displaying but not wearing, but I suppose reasonable minds could differ on that. If you keep them in unworn, mint condition because you value them as a sort of artwork, I guess that's one thing. If it's just because they were expensive and you are afraid to scuff them, etc., then I'd say you shouldn't have paid so much that you feel that way. It reminds me (not talking about you specifically) of some people I know who pay a lot of money for exotic cars that sit on a battery tender in the garage full time because they're afraid that putting miles on the odometer will reduce the price that the next owner will pay for them.

I make hand welted shoes, and when they are nearly complete, sitting on my desk, I feel like I should should keep them there permanently ?? Great shoes are definitely art, and should never ever be used! ? jk jk, but I feel you

I once knew a girl who collected Jordans. Just to stare at them in her home. She rarely ever wore them. There is apparently this huge sub culture with people buying and reselling or just having jordans as a status thing.

I found it weird but hey, to each their own

No. If I paid for it, I'm going to use it.

Not completely unused, but I do have shoes that I keep aside for particular occasions or that get worn less often than others in bad weather and such.

On the positive side, well done for managing to include 190 pairs in a rotation.

I have a couple of pairs that I rarely wear mainly due to lack of opportunity, especially at the moment.

They do feel special when I do get to wear them though and I expect them to last a very long time.

I personally would not have shoes that I didn't wear but that is just me. I also think good shoes look better with extended wear and upkeep.

Oof. I live in a very small apartment, and owning 200+ pairs of shoes would probably lead to divorce :) I had to force myself to stop at around 20, but I do have one pair of suede wholecut Venetian loafers from Cifonelli that I can’t quite bring myself to wear in my dusty and arid country. I’ve made it as far as the front door a couple of times, but no further.
