Untucked shirt -- how long is too long?

For those of you who like to wear your shirts untucked, how do you know when the shirttail is too long? If it completely covered your butt, then I'm sure we'd all agree that would be way too long. But how about, say, if it covered just the top third of your back jeans pockets? I'm 6'2", and that's about where my shirts, when untucked, fall on me.

I get mine tailored to be quite short (5'8' = no OTR is gonna be short enough)but what you described above seems fine assuming the rest of the shirt fits.

off the rack

i usually get my shirts tailored so where the side hem is at, or just below my wrist level if that makes sense

buy shirts that are designed to not be tucked in. I'm 5'7 and if I buy shirts that aren't designed to be tucked in they hit right about the top of the back pocket to covering the first inch of pocket or so.

What about a length that looks good untucked, but also allows you to tuck if desired? I'm 5'8" and have virtually no shirts that don't hang to my package or thereabouts, even the few slim fit ones I have. Some I simply cannot wear untucked without looking like Hobo Willie, others are borderline. I have never had any tails shortened, though perhaps I should, preferably to a length that does not look like I borrowed my nephew's shirt (as some on WAYWT appear to have done). Can't one have it both ways?

I was just browsing around Yoox, and found this little gem. Dude should definitely tuck:

I've seen guys actually wearing this look. Very unattractive, IMO.

There's more than just tucking needs to happen there. Dude needs to pull up the shorts.

I tend to relax and go w/ whatever the shirt style and fit demand. If it's a little long but otherwise looks good, screw it, it works.

With shorts worn knee height and underwear showing through the shirt? Intriguing.
