Untucked shirt fit - are these too tight?

Maybe because they are not accounting for the increasing width as you go down from your waist to hips. Since they are untucked shirts, they should be sitting around your waist, therefore, only tapers down. So if the shirt is slightly too long for your torso and sits under your waist, I am assuming the hips will cause the flaring. First pic, the shirt ends just above the hips. Second pic ends over the hips. Thus, second pic has more flaring out than the first pic.

I like to be able to pinch a couple of inches of fabric all the way from the hem to the chest. This still looks like a tailored fit but lets the shirt hang reasonably. Less than that, they'll pull too tight when you sit. Also, when you raise your arms, the hem will ride up and won't go back down on its own, so you'll be pulling it down all day.

These look like there's no room. They're pulling at the hips when he just stands there.
