OK, can anyone name some jobs that are uncommon/not mainstream, where someone can make a good living (idk, $50K, a living wage) and are enjoyable? I'm open to anything at the moment (see Accounting thread) and am looking for ideas. Helicopter pilot, spider monkey breeder, Costco cashier, air traffic controller...what else is there? I'm stuck on finding a career with a name I can work towards

I'd cross helicopter pilot off your list unless you're going to join the army. I have a friend that did that and she finished with 100k of debt and no way to pay it off. Even though she had her license or whatever, she didn't have enough hours to get hired for the gigs that pay. It's basically unfeasible unless you have a ton of money to burn.

Hmm, seems like all those all involve "blowing (up)" stuff

Really? Not so far, I hate that lifestyle, though I did consider being a CHP officer. How do I make money sitting in my home office reading SF all day?

That's the most "civilian" branch of the armed forces. Best quality of life out of all the branches.
